The City of Akron was founded in December 1825 and incorporated in 1865. Akron’s nicknames are: Rubber City, City of Invention, Rubber Capital of the World. Akron has a long history of rubber and tire manufacturing, carried on today by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is an American multinational tire manufacturing company founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling and based in Akron, Ohio. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, gave Akron the nickname “Rubber Capital of the World”. Today, Akron’s economy includes manufacturing, education, healthcare, and biomedical research.
